New Stuff Found Out about a RTS Bus.

Worked on the RTS bus this last Memorial weekend. Things have been slow up till then. I work at a hospital in Mount Vernon, WA. We are bringing most of our offsite facilities back in-house. The mail migration has really taken a lot of planning and even then we had a few surprises. Our server techs were awesome and our problems were kept to a minimum.

The bus had a few surprises for me also. I found that all my under belly bays had hinged access doors on both sides of the coach.

I have a 110-gallon fuel tank, Empty space under the floor in each bay is apx 59.5 X 22 X 94 inches. I just need to install locking latches to make opening them easier.

I have a air leak in the wiper air control valve and will need to have it rebuilt apx $135.

The sealed container for the radio was still in the first bay (1) and after removing it the bay will be totally empty.
The next bay (2) has the fuel tank but has free space on both sides of the tank and on the drivers side.
The next bay (3) has air tanks and I will be putting the holding tanks in this one.
The last bay (4) has the battery box and that was also where the rear door was. (to be removed) I plan on keeping the battery box here but will enlarge it to provide for more capacity.
A bonus storage area will be in the front under the drivers seat. There is a good deal of space here for a small generator or possibly a auxiliary compressor or even a place to mount basement air.
I think the planning is a good deal of the fun of owning a coach and making it your home on wheels.

Books I’ve acquired:

The Bus Converters Bible
Bus Wiring for Bus Nuts
Classy Cabinets for Converted Coaches
The Gospel of Gauges According to Galey

A couple more I can’t remember.
The “Bus Conversion Magazine” is also a good reference.

May showers etc. etc. etc.

The rain and SNOW has stopped for now and I have started to delve into the rest of the Demo work. The platform in the back was all constructed on top of the original flooring and can be completely removed.
Since my bus flooring is in great shape I will leave as much as I can and install high density closed cell insulation on top of it. I don't plan on using this bus for winter camping and don't see the sense in removing it all and starting over. The floorplan is in the final design stages and I will be posting it as soon as the final problems are worked out. So far the Kitchen is a L shape and we have a set of bunkbeds for the grandkids and a queen size flexsteel foldout couch with a facing loveseat up in front over the wheel wells. Getting it all to fit is the trick.
I'll be posting the floorplan and more pics soon.
